The Shepherd Crack + The VST plugin is inspired by recordings of the whistling of a sheep herd leader in New Zealand. We have found that these whistled notes blend together to form a really cool sound. It is our intention to attempt to replicate this whistled sound and replicate it in a virtual synth. This was to prove a concept that is easy to use, and that you could create some cool new sounds from a list of whistled notes. The demonstration video we created was made from scratching off card to record a single whistle note that was modified and then sequenced over and over again to demonstrate the instrument. The demo was created with a small metronome and a simple patch that included the frequency spectrum sweep and a loop of the wail section of the whistle. The custom user interface allows for the player to control these parameters with visual notation. The interface was developed with a focus on simplicity, and it is possible to make the various parameters switchable between the visual interface, a midi controller and an ai controller.
